The power of the region

It may seem like a paradox. Often, the region or the city may have a more powerful and much more coherent image than the nation-state. The Mekong Delta could resonate more strongly than Vietnam itself. The USA has a strong national identity – but so do Las Vegas, Chicago, California and Texas. Russia has a strong identity, but Saint Petersburg and Siberia have very consistent messages to tell.

So, regions, states and cities also can benefit immensely by identifying and then staying in touch with precise target groups that appreciate them. This is what the Internet makes possible, very affordably – even for the smallest entity. A creative and youthful imagination is more important when deploying the Internet than big budgets.

It is the consumer today who is driving changes in attitudes and behaviour – climate change, sustainability, ethical standards, corporate governance, female empowerment, fair wages, etc., etc., etc. The region and the city really need to be continuously aware.

In this, they are similar to the nation. And they have similar needs to create structures whereby the most appropriate enterprises can cluster together for mutual support and also support from the centre in using our techniques.

We will make sure that each outward facing enterprise and association sends out the messages that reinforce the coherent image of the whole – the region, city or state.
