Andrew FENNING
Andy is an expert in situation analysis and the development of strategic recommendations for new brand and product propositions. He has advised countless local, regional and global brand owners on how to develop comprehensive and vigorous communication strategies based on a competitive and attractive new positioning. His career spans:
- Advertising: working for J Walter Thomson in London, and subsequently in Brazil (Sao Paolo and Rio de Janeiro) where, as Creative Director, he reinvented JWT’s creative reputation in a country which was, at that time, considered to be the hottest creative culture in the advertising world – but where JWT had been lagging behind. His career took him to work with JWT in Portugal (as President and CEO) and in New York.
- Market Research: Expert in polling and quantitative research techniques. As Principal of the New York Office of Penn, Schoen & Berland, he worked in 2002 with the White House Pollsters of Bill Clinton to develop a corporate strategy practice based on their polling techniques. He subsequently became Regional President for Europe of AcuPOLL Research Inc., a US-based quantitative research company specialising in innovation and product/market development.
- Nation Branding: As Worldwide Leader for all Nation Branding and Tourism clients at JWT from 1998-2000, Andy was involved in the development of country brand identities for Bermuda, Ireland and Chile as well as more than a dozen ad hoc projects. This required optimizing not just tourism but investment potential, credit worthiness, international relations and industrial growth/employment.
- Brand Master Plan Development: As CEO of JWT Portugal, Andy was responsible for all strategic recommendations to the Portuguese Government of the day and for all external communication of the new tourism strategy for the country in overseas markets.
- Brand Franchise Development: as Worldwide Director of Strategic Development, JWT Worldwide, Andy worked directly with Global CEO to develop and execute strategic plan to transform JWT from an advertising agency to a brand communications company.
Andy has a Master of Arts degree from Magdalene College, Cambridge University (UK). He also studied Financial Management at the London Business School; and Advanced Marketing and Brand Development at INSEAD (France).
As Chief Learning Officer, JWT Worldwide, Andy built a Knowledge Management Community for JWT, and created JWT’s first intranet, developed award winning interactive training DVDs.
As Regional Director of Strategic Planning, JWT Latin America, he developed local and pan-regional strategies for key regional and global clients, while raising the bar (through training) of all professional disciplines in 24 regional offices.
